Battle of the
Genera-
tions
Two generations meet in a mix of game show and participatory performing arts
How do the generations who are older or younger than ourselves think? What are their dreams, their hopes and their fears? Do they blame us? Do they know something we don’t? Can they do something we can’t? And who wins in the end?
BATTLE OF THE GENERATONS focuses on who we are and what connects and divides us across the generations. Gender, age, local belonging, politics, cultural norms and understanding of reality are play out in a game and quiz show, where selected local citizens from a selected city or district participate actively on stage.
The event has so far been staged three times: at Teater Momentum in Odense (2018), at Bydelshuset Krydset on Stensgårdsvej in Esbjerg (in 2021, with live-stream) and at Baltoppen in Ballerup in 2023.
Each time two teams of local citizens took part on stage together with the evening’s hosts, performers Erik Pold and Pernille Koch, who are also behind the project together with Adelaide Bentzon. Video artist Helle Lyshøj has created a visual frame with video clips that, among other things, involves interviews and voxpops from each city.
BATTLE OF THE GENERATONS is a format that we like to recreate from time to time. At the first edition in 2018, local TV2 Fyn made a feature from the event in Odense which can be seen here (in danish).
The Esbjerg edition was broadcast as a live stream on Youtube, and can be seen below.
